Student Life at Orama Academy

Life at Orama Academy blends community, faith, and the beauty of island living. Our coastal campus on Great Barrier Island provides the space to step away from everyday distractions, focus on God, and build lasting friendships.

Weekends
Weekends are free, giving students time to enjoy the island or join in optional community activities.
Food and Accommodation
We provide comfortable accommodation with simple, well-kept rooms that include a bed, bedding, and storage space. Shared bathroom facilities and communal areas are close by, making it easy to connect with others while having space to rest.
Meals are a highlight of life on campus. Our chefs prepare nourishing, home-style meals, and our shared kitchen facilities are available for anyone who wants to cook for themselves. Whether eating together or preparing your own food, you’ll always feel at home.
Learning Spaces
Lecture rooms at Orama Academy are designed for focused learning. Each space includes high-speed internet, AV equipment, and video conferencing tools so we can bring in guest speakers from across New Zealand and beyond. These rooms are also a hub for discussion and collaboration, helping students learn from one another as much as from their teachers.
Common Areas
Life at Orama is built on community. Students gather in shared lounges, study rooms, and quiet outdoor spaces for rest and connection. There’s a games corner, music equipment for casual jam sessions, and plenty of spots to relax after class. Whether studying, talking with friends, or enjoying downtime, there’s always a place to feel at home.
Optional Electives and Activities
Student life at Orama Academy extends beyond the classroom. Our creative electives allow students to explore their faith and learning in fresh ways. Options include art studio sessions, songwriting, poetry, and other forms of expression that help students reflect on what God is teaching them.
The island itself offers countless opportunities for adventure. Kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, fishing, surfing, sailing, and bush camping are all part of the Orama experience. These activities bring balance to the programme and give students a chance to enjoy the beauty of Great Barrier Island.
A Place to Grow
The Certificate in Biblical Discipleship and Ministry is a 15-week programme designed to deepen your faith and understanding of the Bible. Through teaching, worship, and community, students develop a strong foundation for life, leadership, and service.
At Orama Academy, you will learn, grow, and discover what it means to live a life shaped by God’s Word. Surrounded by stunning natural beauty and supported by a community of faith, student life here is a unique and memorable experience.
